What are the benefits of diabetes apps?

Apps are helpful in managing your diabetes. There are many applications available for both Android and Apple users. There are many apps available to help you, with all of your needs, concerning your diabetes management. There are apps available that can log your blood glucose numbers, track your medications, carbohydrates eaten, exercise, and weight. Apps vary in price (free to paid) and usability (use of a smartphone to requiring wearable blood glucose meters). When choosing an app keep in mind the amount of money you are willing to spend and what features are important to you.

The app Glooko is available for both Apple and Android phones. This app helps manage diabetes. This app allows you to enter your blood glucose numbers, keep track of the medications that you use, and track the number of carbohydrates eaten. This app allows the user to combine the information from their blood glucose meters, continuous blood glucose monitors, their insulin pumps, and many fitness apps used. This app doesn’t require any special equipment and is free with the option of in-app purchases.

The Dexcom Follow app allows Apple and Andriod users to read the continuous glucose monitor's (CGM) data, from the device, that is worn on the diabetic's body. The app then takes the information, from the CGM, and sends it to the Dexcom Clarity servers. The Dexcom Clarity servers can then supply this information, about the blood glucose, to anyone the diabetic gives viewing privileges to. This process allows the diabetic, and any caregiver, to continually see the blood glucose (if their smartphone is nearby and has internet service). The app also triggers an alarm when the diabetic's blood sugar level goes high or low. These alerts can be customized based on the diabetic's personal needs. The Dexcom Clarity website allows the user to review their blood glucose numbers (as far back as you want/need) and allows the user to see trends with their blood glucose readings. It is important to only share the blood glucose numbers with those who actually need to see this information. This will ensure patient confidentially. This information can be downloaded, during your doctor's appointment, for them to review what your blood glucose is doing during different times of the day. This can help the client see trends in their blood glucose numbers. This app is free, but the cost of the CGM varies depending on insurance coverage.
